PINEAPL (Parallel Industrial NumErical Applications and Portable Libraries) is an ESPRIT project, in the area of High Performance Computing and Networking, with partners from industrial, academic and research organizations, that form the PINEAPL Consortium.
The main goal of the project is to produce a general purpose library of parallel numerical software suitable for a wide range of computationally intensive industrial applications. The contents of the library have been primarily determined by the requirements of the industrial partners, but include also areas that are likely to be useful in a wide range of industrial applications outside the PINEAPL Consortium. Driving criteria in the development of the library routines are ease of use, portability, performance, accuracy, reliability and flexibility. These criteria are taken into account in the whole software development process, from the selection of algorithms, to the implementation and testing of the corresponding routines.
In this talk we describe the structure, the main design principles and the current state of the PINEAPL Library.
